Jamie’s homecoming after graduating is not what he expected. His mother Mags has left his philandering Glaswegian dad Bob and the family pet shop business. Jamie, unemployed and with no likely prospects, is dragged into the shop on what he thinks is a temporary basis to help out. Bob needs a low cost pliable manager to organise his motley staff whilst he returns to doing nothing, except playing cards with his cronies in the café next door. After a sleepless night thanks to his dad’s new girlfriend, Jamie meets the unusual staff and animals whilst his dad ignores the first rule of pet care, don’t sell it if it doesn’t belong to you!

One of the  shops central characters is a Mackaw unfortuanately trained to swear at Bob by his embittered Liverpudlian wife, and you never know quite when it’s going to happen! Manning the pet emporium  is a budding Doolittle, Kylie, not the sharpest tool in the box,  assisted by Boris, a genial Bosnian refugee in charge of general maintenance.

This is Jamie’s new life , he just doesn’t know it yet.
